Train to Teach
If you’re considering a career in teaching, the Star initial teacher training programmes, delivered through Star Institute, provide industry-leading pathways into teaching.
Star Institute is dedicated to supporting the training and development of teachers. We want to give every teacher who works for us, or trains with us, the best possible chance to become an outstanding teacher. Outstanding teaching delivers outstanding outcomes – our ultimate goal for our own schools and for the school system.
The Institute offers three routes into primary and secondary teaching through our Star Teacher programme:
- Route 1 School Centred Initial Teacher Training – a 12-month programme that combines in-school experience and centre-based training.
- Route 2 Assessment Only – a route that could see you gain qualified teacher status in as little as six weeks.
- Route 3 Post Graduate Teaching Apprenticeship – an employment-based apprenticeship programme running over four terms, which integrates academic, centre-based learning and on-the-job practical training in schools.
All Star Teachers routes lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The optional award of a PGCE is also available via our partner University.
As a Star Teacher graduate, we will work with you to secure a role in our growing network of outstanding Star schools where you can enjoy a range of enhanced benefits and outstanding training and development opportunities.
This year all of our Star Teachers graduates secured a teaching position and 77% were employed as NQTs within a Star school.
In choosing to complete Initial Teacher Training with Star, you also begin a journey of continuous professional development with us. From programmes for newly and recently qualified teachers to leadership learning with the national professional qualifications for leaders, our spectrum of programmes provide a powerful continuum of progression.
