Celebrations for Eden Boys’ School, Birmingham after exceptional GCSE results

  • 84% of pupils were awarded grades 9-5 in English and Maths, which is expected to be in the top 1% of all schools nationally.
  • 90% of pupils were awarded grades 9-4 in English and Maths, which is expected to be in the top 1% of all schools nationally.

The whole school community at Eden Boys’ School, Birmingham is celebrating exceptional GCSE results after pupils sat exams for the first time since 2019.

Pupils have valiantly overcome two years of disruption to their education, following periods of lockdowns, self-isolation and illness, with 84% of pupils achieving a ‘strong pass’ (grades 9-5) in English and Maths, which is expected to place the school’s performance in the top 1% of all schools nationally.

School staff and parents have today been celebrating with pupils at the school as they progress onto the next stage of their education or training.

Mahir Rahman was one of the highest performing pupils in the school, despite only moving to the country when he was in year 8 with little grasp of the English language. Mahir’s drive and ambition to succeed saw him achieve the top grade of 9 in six subjects.

During his time at the school, he has gone the extra mile to support his peers with Maths and Science masterclasses, and hopes to become a Doctor by studying Medicine at university. Mahir will take his A levels in Chemistry, Biology and Maths at King Edward VI Aston School, one of the top performing schools in the country.

Mahir said:

“I’m really happy with the results and would like to thank my teachers for all their hard work.”

The highest performing pupil at Eden Boys’ School was Head Boy Mohammad Usman, who received grade 9s in 8 subjects. Like Mahir, Mohammad aspires to study Medicine at university, and has balanced his academic achievements with volunteering for the community, raising over £2,000 for various charities during his time at the school.

Mohammad said:

“I am really proud of results and so grateful to the teachers and support staff.”

For fellow year 11 pupil Asa’d Khan it has been an especially exciting summer. He has followed his involvement as a Commonwealth Games 2022 baton bearer by achieving five grade 9s in his GCSEs. As the school’s Deputy Head Boy, Asa’d has also been instrumental in supporting, organising and volunteering for the school’s Winter Gift Programme and Charity Appeal and has completed over 200 hours of community service since year 7.

Asa’d said:

“Never give up and aim for the stars – you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.”

Asiyah Ravat OBE, Executive Principal at Eden Boys’ School, Birmingham, said:

“I would like to congratulate our fantastic pupils on their results, which we hope will be an important chapter in their journey towards realising their dream career.

“They have faced more disruption and uncertainty than we could ever foresee, so to hear about so many outstanding results despite these challenges makes me immensely proud.

“The best part of the day is seeing so many happy faces celebrating together, and the fact this is the first results day without restrictions for a few years made it even more special.”
