Eden Boys’ School pupils spread festive cheer with gifts for the homeless and elderly
Eden Boys’ School pupils have been putting smiles on the faces of those in need with festive gifts.
Our school chose to support homeless people and the elderly through its annual Festive Winter Gift Programme. The programme sees pupils get involved in fundraising activities and appealing for donations to help provide gifts for people in need of support during the festive season.
The school’s Humanitarian Club led the programme in school. The Humanitarian Club meets weekly to consider the needs of others in the community and how the school can respond to them.
Pupils across all year groups were involved in preparing festive gift hampers. Many pupils also had the chance to deliver them – and spread festive cheer in doing so.
Elderly residents of Aston Court residential care home in Sutton Coldfield received gift hampers packed with everything from chocolates, plants and cosy slippers to photograph frames, toiletries and games.
Young homeless people supported by charity St Basil’s were gifted warm winter clothing, toiletries and chocolates.
Year 7 pupil Riyaadh commented, “I really enjoyed giving the gifts to the elderly. Seeing the happy looks on their faces made it all worthwhile.”
Asiyah Ravat, our Principal, commented, “The students and staff felt privileged to be able to give gift hampers to our elderly friends. Seeing the beaming smiles on their faces gave everyone involved an immense amount of satisfaction that together we had made someone’s day. At our school we believe giving something back to our communities and honouring the elderly are vitally important; to see that vision in action was an amazing experience.”
Through the Festive Winter Gift Programme, all schools run by Star Academies, aim to offer support to the most vulnerable people – young and old – in their communities, those who are unwell, elderly, living in care, those who experience loneliness or food poverty. The Trust’s aim is to ensure that no one in the communities around its schools goes without a card or a gift at this festive time of year.
