Eden Boys’ School has lowest overall absence of all England’s schools

We are proud that Eden Boys’ School, Birmingham has once again topped the league table for having the lowest rates of overall pupil absence of all secondary schools in England.

Absence data for the 2016/17 academic year, released by the DfE on Thursday 22 March, confirmed our overall pupil absence rate of 1%, well below the national average of 4.7%.

Our Principal Asiyah Ravat commented:

“I feel incredibly proud that Eden Boys’ School, Birmingham is top of the pupil absence league table once again. It’s testament to the commitment and dedication of our team of staff that our pupils want to be in school every single day. The enthusiasm of our pupils doesn’t go unnoticed and, indeed, it’s infectious. Well done to everyone at Eden Boys’ for their sterling work.”

Four more schools run by Star Academies are among the 1% of all England’s secondary schools with the lowest pupil absence rates, the DfE data reveals.

  • Eden Boys’ School, Preston
  • Eden Boys’ School, Bolton
  • Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School, Blackburn
  • Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School, Blackburn

And two of the Trust’s primaries – The Olive School, Blackburn and The Olive School, Preston – also feature in the top 1% of England’s primary schools with the lowest pupil absence rates.

Mufti Hamid Patel CBE, Chief Executive of Star Academies, said:

“It’s been proven that there is a strong correlation between good levels of attendance and high levels of attainment. This is borne out in the fact that our two Blackburn secondary schools, TIGHS and TIBHS, who were first and third respectively in the Progress 8 league tables earlier this year, also rank in the top 1% of secondary schools for low absence rates.

“It’s incredibly pleasing that so many of the Trust’s schools are ranked highly in the national league tables for attendance. Our teaching staff work hard to plan and deliver engaging sessions for pupils to give them a rich educational experience that inspires them to want to be in school every day. We are also fortunate to enjoy the support of parents and carers who help to ensure their children attend school regularly, on time, and ready to learn.”
