Children celebrate World Book Day over a brew and a book

Brews and books were the order of the day for highlighting the joys of reading to pupils as they celebrated World Book Day on 7 March.

World Book Day is a global celebration of storytelling and reading. Held annually on the first Thursday in March in the UK, World Book Day sees schoolchildren and teachers alike dress up as their favourite characters from well-known tales, and share stories they love.

The bookworms were asked to bring in one of their favourite books to read and share with friends over a cuppa and a biscuit during a special lunchtime reading session, in order to show how magical books can be.

Pupils also dressed up as characters including Where’s Wally, Harry Potter, The Cat in the Hat, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Mary Poppins and The Mad Hatter, among many others.

Principal Asiyah Ravat said:

“Good reading habits start early and children who share books with others are more likely to develop language skills and advanced reading levels. We want to engender in our pupils a lifelong love of reading and literacy to fire up their creativity and imaginations. The boys really enjoy getting dressed up for World Book Day each year and there were some fantastic costumes worn. It is a fun way to encourage all our pupils to become avid readers.”
