Boys raise over £17,000 for charity
Pupils, parents and staff have donated a colossal amount of money to help children less fortune than themselves through the school’s Ramadhaan appeal which totalled £17,330.
Throughout the month of Ramadhaan, pupils thought long and hard about how fortunate they are to have access to a good education whilst living comfortable lives in comparison to others around the world.
The annual Ramadhaan appeal started strongly, with many families of pupils donating to the ‘Educate a Child Appeal’ to each fund one year of education for a child in a war-torn country. This appeal alone took the cash total to just short of £13,000.
Pupils were also keen to spread kindness to those in their local community through the school’s ‘Gift Hamper Appeal’. This initiative helped to put a smile on the faces of vulnerable and homeless people in the local area.
The Ramadhaan appeal reflects the STAR values – Service, Teamwork, Ambition & Respect – which all pupils and staff are encouraged to live by. The grand total was also boosted by an element of light-hearted competition, whereby a daily email was sent with a breakdown of how much each year group had raised so far throughout the month, with Year 9 pupils leading the way by raising over £5,000 in total.
Head of Year 9 Mohammad Shabir Miah commented:
“The generosity of pupils, staff and their families has been nothing short of incredible. Everyone has risen to the challenge of helping those less fortunate than themselves both in the local community and in war-torn countries. We are extremely proud as a school community that we have reached a total that will truly make a difference to the lives of others.”
