Our First Cricket Match, Our first Win

On Thursday 15th June Eden Boys played their first league game against Holyhead School. The first innings started well for Eden with Hamza Asad bowling consistently good with three maiden overs in a row. The break-through finally came with Hamza picking up two wickets in his final over. From there onwards it was all one way traffic with wickets falling for Holyhead on a consistent basis. Later in the innings captain Umair came on to bowl and within the space of two overs (12 deliveries) managed to pick up an incredible FIVE WICKETS only conceding the one run. Eden’s batting started very wayward with the top three batsmen getting out in quick succession due to poor shot selection. The over-confident feeling in the Eden camp was quickly silence with the fall of quick wickets. In real trouble it took the patience and quality batting from Yousaf Sharif to steady the ship and bring Eden to victory with the support of Muhammed AbuBakar. Overall an excellent first game for Eden Boys winning by five wickets. The boys went on a real journey throughout the game from excellent teamwork in the field, to over-confidence becoming their greatest weakness and then the perseverance of the youngest member of the team to bring home the win. The team will play again on Thursday 22nd June (next week) against Broadway.
